Loss of Old Workshop
Copyright © David Boettcher 2005 - 2026 all rights reserved. In January 2024, the old workshop suffered a totally unexpected roof collapse during a period of torrential rain. Fortunately, nobody was in the building at the time. The rainwater incoming overnight and the material from the collapsed roof damaged beyond recovery all the work in hand, stocks of leather, tools, machines, workbenches — absolutely everything had to be written off. A decision was taken not to try to repair the damage to the building, and it was not economically sensible to replace the lost stock, tools and equipment, which has been built up over many years.
I have managed to get very limited production under way again, but the loss of the old workshop means that I can no longer offer the range of watch straps that I did before, or custom sizes of the straps that I now supply.
I have gone back to the founding reason that Vintage Watchstraps came into existence in 2005; the production of authentic replica trench watch straps. Details of these can be found on the New Designs.
I have also restarted a very limited production of my RAF Type straps. Details can be found at Leather RAF Type Straps.
I hope that at some time in the future I will be able to offer my Bow Saver leather Albert fobs again.
Please Note
The loss of the old workshop, including all the tools and leather, means that I cannot make the other types of strap that I used to supply, or make any custom orders.
The only straps that I can currently supply are the ones described at New Designs and Leather RAF Type Straps.
